Your work in this course will be evaluated in a variety of ways. It is important to remember that, while artistic excellence is valued highly by all of us, commitment and openness to experimentation are equally important. Collaboration is the order of the day, for the professors as well as for the students, and we all need to learn how to do this well. As a result we’ve devised a grading scheme that reflects these expectations.
Four Group Assignments -- (15% each)
Assignment one deadline is Sept. 26
Assignment two deadline is Oct. 15
Assignment three deadline is Oct. 24
Assignment four deadline is November 7
You will work in groups or individually on the assignments in the first nine weeks of the term. Each assignment must be completed and presented to the class on the date specified. These assignments will be evaluated partly on how willing you are to take risks and “work outside the box.” The work produced will form the basis of the public presentation. Requirements and expectations for all assignments will be handed out in class. There will be a system in place for gauging level of participation and collaboration of each group member.
Final Show (20%)
Students are expected to work in two disciplines for the final performances. At least one of those disciplines must be outside your concentration. Your level of commitment, technical execution, participation and collaboration — all will be taken into account when awarding this grade.
Attendance and Participation (20%)
In support of our goals about commitment and collaboration we are putting a heavy weight on people showing up for class on time, being prepared to work collaboratively, and pulling their weight in group situations. Attendance at all classes and labs is mandatory. Lateness and unexplained absences will result in a poor grade.
Policy on Late Work: Because of the nature of this course, late work will not be accepted except in cases of verifiable illness or family emergency. Incompletes are not possible.
