The 1997 Ninnies Awards

1997 Ninnies Highlights

April 1997 saw the Ninnies return to the Baby Grand theatre in downtown Kingston, and once again this year a capacity crowd was on hand. Dress was cool and contemporary (see photos at top).

Dan Sioui and Kate Horton, co-chairpersons of the Strudel Film Society, were the official hosts for the evening, while the awards were presented by Josie Law and Nicky Baynes (who were very excited, being from Glasgow and not having attended a Ninny Awards before.)

Awards to faculty included a Derek Redmond paper doll with extensive wardrobe, and a cigar for Susan Lord, who has become a bit of a fixture on the front steps of Film House.

The show opened with a dramatic trivia challenge (bottom), in which emcee Elan Mastai pitched questions to Department Head Blaine Allan and student Jason Lapeyre. Blaine had to sweat to emerge victorious.

Attending her first Ninnies was Linda Graham, pictured here with Derek Redmond (obviously late in the evening).

Also in attendance was Bryn Chamberlain (not pictured).

No door prizes were given.
