Only in a Willys: What
CJ-3B Owners Are Up To

One more winter shot -- a sticky snowfall that we got in February. Didn't require plowing, though -- the Subaru loves this stuff.

But spring is here now, and what better vehicle to enjoy it in, than a Pepsi Surrey. This is the latest example that's turned up, in Massachusetts.

Bruce Isaac's 1953 CJ-3B in Wind Cave, Kentucky is better prepared for the snow this year, with a nice homemade hardtop. "I built it with 1x3s and plywood and then cut up an old Walmart pool to cover it. Windows are plexiglass."

It was chillier last year, when Bruce improvised a bikini top over the roll bar. The Jeep has the stock 6-volt drive train; the only big upgrade is also for comfort -- a set of GM car seats.

Look closely at this photo of Chriss Manley's new shop building in Norman, Arkansas. His 1955 CJ-3B is not the only high hood in the picture. Great idea, Chriss!

Early in January, Dick Williams in Spokane, Washington reported, "Nine inches of snow this morning. Rolled the '54 CJ-3B out of the garage to shoot a couple of pictures."

Sebastian Lobo-Guerrero's dad spotted this coffee shop on wheels in Colombia, also selling cell phone "minutos" and local food. (See more details on dishes like "mazamorra" on the Jeeps in Colombia page.)

Chad Willmon in Arkansas is starting to put a pretty nice Jeep collection together. More details on his 1953 CJ-3B project (named Ray after his grandfather) coming soon in the Owners Photos pages.

I like to get a photo of my CJ-3B snowplow in front of the Christmas tree every year, at the editorial home of The CJ3B Page. The weatherman didn't fail me this year.

We had fall-like weather at Oconto Lake in Ontario until a couple of days before Christmas, but then we had three snowstorms before New Year's.

John Goering and the dogs got his 1955 CJ-3B a little bit stuck, out in Montana: "Thought this stuff was hard enough to hold it up, but it was apparently just a little bit too warm."

Doug Hoffman in Idaho also had a small problem with his 1963 CJ-3B on a recent trip: "We got to play in the snow a bit until I slid off into the ditch (better than sliding the other way and over the side of the mountain.)"

John Burch installed a SnowSport ATV plow on his '54 in Chicago last winter. John's website is new in CJ-3B Web Links.

The 66-inch plow attaches to a standard 2" hitch receiver John added to the front of his Jeep, along with a winch to raise the blade.

Todd Phelps' photo of his 1958 CJ-3B, taken at a family campsite in Reeds, NC, was the winner recently of the Kaiser Willys Auto Supply 2013 Catalog Front Cover.

Another memento of fall 2012: Rusty Friesen takes his 1953 CJ-3B out to see the aspens in New Mexico.

It was summer in Alaska when Kurt Pherzog took this photo of the Skagway Fire Department's very original Howe CJ-3B Fire Engine.

Steven Bolger's 1958 CJ-3B in New Jersey is seen here with his TJ when he first bought the former military high hood a couple of years ago.

"Ol' Skool Jeeper" Jeff Heidman reported in September 2012 that, "Several of us got together for a trail ride over in eastern Alabama at Chocolocco Mountain offroad park."

"The ol' gal ('53 3B) surprised all but me. I let my son drive so his arms would be sore from fighting the Ross box. The replacement tub is still hiding in the garage."

Meanwhile, this late 1964 CJ-3B in Arizona came up for sale again on eBay. It was one of the last 3B's sold domestically in the U.S., which tend to show up in the Southwest (see also Texas: Land of Late Model High Hoods on The CJ3B Page.)

The Jeep, serial number 8105 127602, has been restified with a number of period details added, including this radio. Less and less to listen to on the AM band these days, though.

Stuart Snow takes his 1954 CJ-3B trail riding in the Sierra Ancha Wilderness and at Roosevelt Lake (right) in Arizona.

See more photos, with details of Stuart's recent engine rebuilding problems and his unique new "YIPAO" license plates.
